Dr. Christina Mick, Director of the Center for Counseling and Mental Health Wellness, at Tennessee Tech University and her daughter, Kayla Mick, 2023 Putnam County Fairest of the Fair and junior at the University of Tennessee at Martin, have collaborated on the completed children’s book, “Meg and the Magic of Movement.”
Inspired by Kayla’s personal journey, Meg the chinchilla learns to embrace Auditory Processing Disorder. This story encourages everyone to realize that their differences are by no means limitations. In Kayla’s words, “differences are strengths.”
Approximately 3-5% of school aged children are impacted by auditory processing disorder (APD). Auditory Processing Disorder is often undiagnosed or misdiagnosed. Older adults are also affected by APD. At least 23% of those over the age of 55 are impacted by APD.
The Micks say this book was written to continue to bring awareness to APD.
In addition to this book, Kayla Mick founded Leashes Leading Love community service organization that brings awareness to APD while helping animal service organizations in need. Recently, she created the “Magic of Movement and Healthy Living” social media channel via Instagram. This platform shares ways movement and living a health lifestyle can help you embrace life’s challenges of living healthy as a college student. The platform also promotes awareness regarding APD.
“Meg and the Magic of Movement” may be purchased online at Amazon.com and is available on Kindle for purchase. All proceeds from the book go toward purchasing jump ropes for physical education programs across the state of Tennessee.
